An interesting theory

March 24, 2012

Dagens nyheter (The Daily News, in Swedish) reports about Anna Källdén, survivor of child abuse, who is tired of being called “victim”.

Nobody wants to be seen as a victim. It’s the reason so many beaten people keep quiet, they don’t want to be treated like that. (my translation)

Interesting theory… I don’t think it’s the whole reason, but I’m sure it’s part of it for some people.

When Källdén found out that there was no organisation available in Sweden, EU or UN to collect the experiences and expertise of formerly abused people, she started one herself. It’s called “Slagfärdiga“*. Check it out!

* “Slagfärdig”, in Swedish, means “witty”. The “a” at the end of “Slagfärdiga” puts the adjective in plural form. “Slag” means beat, hit or strike. “Färdig” means ready or finished. Punnylicious!
